So apparently, your friends page? Is going to start looking like this.

LJ? If I wanted something to look like Tumblr, I'd fucking go to my Tumblr. What the actual hell is your problem, Livejournal?

Anyways, I think it's officially time to start cross-posting from Dreamwidth. I'm on there, also as [profile] ken_ichijouj, and for the record, [community profile] mccoy_and_kirk is on there, too! So you should totally add me/join that community!

Mother-fuckers. Not you guys, LJ, I mean.

In the past day I've spent $100 on Nail Polish between Sephora.com, Ulta in person, and Ulta online. (In my defense, at Sephora if you spend $50 you get free shipping, and Butter London was buy two, get one free on Ulta.com.) Guys, I already have so much nail polish I never wear. Why am I doing this?

I will share what I bought though!

At Ulta in person, I bought Kiss Me on My Tulips (hot pink) and Nein! Nein! Nein! Okay Fine (a dark non-metallic gunmetal gray.)
On Ulta's website I bought Butter London in Slapper (eletric blue), Teddy Girl (pale baby neutral pink), and Shag (a coppery metallic red the color of fall leaves). I have never tried Butter London before so this is exciting!
On Sephora.com I bought Sephora by OPI's matte top coat, Sephora by OPI in A-Ha Moment! (bright white), Illamasqua in Scorn (matte black...I'm excited to try matte nail polish even though I hear it looks like crap after a day or two), Illamasqua in Radium (metallic lime green), and Sephora by OPI in Slushied (robin's egg blue).

I am trying to branch out and not just wear black/dark purple/everything by OPI all the time. I just had mustard yellow on my fingers (OPI's The "It" Color), and my friends in New York loved it. (Stupid thing started chipping after three days, which is weird because the place I go to normally takes a week to start chipping. Oh well.) I normally just buy OPI because I really like their polishes a lot, but I'm trying different brands. I'm staying high end, though, because it's my experience that with nail polish you get what you pay for. The cheap drug store brands chip like the day I put them on, but the nicer brands don't. Or maybe I'm just a big giant snobby-pants, who knows?

In other news, I got rear-ended at a stop light yesterday. I'm fine, my friend who was with me is fine, and the car has very very minimal damage to the back bumper. However...the dude drove off. He rear-ended me and we pulled into a parking lot. I told him I had called the police, as one does. He said "Oh I don't think we need to get them involved." I was like "Yes we do. You rear-ended me."

Like...I'm not stupid. If I don't have a police report number, I can't get his insurance to pay for the damage to my car. I've seen it happen to friends of mine where they didn't call the cops when they got hit and got screwed over. I'm not letting that happen.

Well I should have taken a picture of his license plate when he said that, because he waited for like two more minutes and then drove off before I could get one. I got the make and model of his car and his physical description. (He didn't even give me his name!) The cop had no choice but to file it as a hit and run. Good luck to you, buddy, when you get caught. Shit's a felony as opposed to a moving violation.

Popular theories as to why he ran: he has a bad driving record/lot of accidents or he was on drugs/had drugs in the car.

The important thing is that I'm fine and I only have two tiny scratches that need to be buffed out of my bumper. Progressive said it's unlikely my insurance will go up, but I need to double-check that with my claims adjuster on Monday.

Mostly I'm just pissed off that the dude ran. I rear-ended someone back in 2007 when it was raining, and like...I called the cops on myself. I don't understand why it's difficult to do the right thing in situations like this. Especially in North Carolina, because for fuck's sake when you get your court date, if you take them a certificate from your insurance saying the damages to the other person's car was paid for, you get off with no points on your license and not even having to pay court costs! WHY WOULD YOU NOT JUST DO THAT? Jesus Christ.

He had to have been high or something. It's the only thing that makes sense. Or driving illegally with no insurance. (In NC, you have to carry insurance to drive.) I just...why on Earth?

Oh. Also. Next Friday. Six days. Phoenix Invictus. Probably as soon as I get up that morning. Be here.
ken_ichijouji: (true love in space // kirk/bones)
Well maybe "bereft" is a bit strong, but whatever.

I finished Phoenix Invictus last week, at least until I get edits back from my betas. And school started, okay yay for that. I have things to do.

But I just feel so at loose ends and like I don't know what to do with myself.

I have been working on Phoenix in small pieces since 2009. I've been basically obsessed with telling this story for three years. And now it's mostly done, and I just...I have no idea what to do. [livejournal.com profile] maypirate was like "just bask in your awesomeness," which I did for a couple of days but now I just...I dunno. I feel like I need to write more stuff, and I have a lot of ideas (more water park, more Gossip Girl, and some other things), but I don't know what to do with myself.

Good thing that happened, I got two medal in the Rec Olympics, one for a fic I had literally only just posted which blows my mind. I feel like I never get rec'ed, or at least if I do I don't get told about it to thank the people. So that was really a great feeling. (I've been told I'm full of crap and I get rec'ed a lot, so rationally I know I'm being dumb when I say I feel like I don't get that. I just get genuinely surprised when people like what I do because LBR it's pretty outrageous and silly sometimes.)

So anyways, I hope when Phoenix gets posted you guys like it and read it and all that good stuff. It has aliens and pirates and Bones getting phenomenal cosmic powers (but no itty bitty living space) in it. If I could just figure out how to split the damn chapters.

I am going back to my cramps and blackberry cabernet sorbet now. And I hope you guys are all doing okay! Drop me a line in the comments with an update! <3

ETA: Sent my rough draft in. It's official; I "won" Big Bang. If you can call it winning, and not like watering your future with your heart's blood. (Thank you, Grant Morrison.)
ken_ichijouji: (fire and life incarnate // phoenix!bones)
HI LIVEJOURNAL I SPENT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON DURING MY CREATIVE WRITING CLASS UNTIL 4:00 PM TODAY SICK.

But I wrote like 10,000 words on my Trek/Ghostbusters crossover. Which would be awesome if not for the fact that like...I have other more pressing shit to write. Like my Rom Com. And Phoenixey things.

This weekend I finish cleaning out the old apartment, because I had in the keys next week. Finally that chapter of my life will be over! No more dank depressing apartment full of leaks and mildew. (No seriously, it flooded every time it rained. The carpet is stained black from it. Which I am not paying for, for the record.)

I have worked a little on Phoenix here or there, and the Good Phoenix part is at 7000 and some change words. It's made me realize I have to redo one of the opening scenes of Dark Phoenix and make more time elapse during it, but I can do that all later. I just want to get Good Phoenix finished, at least a rough draft so soon as possible. The rate things are going, I won't be posting this until the summer I guess. (I can't write and only write over Spring Break for two reasons. A) [livejournal.com profile] faoi_cheilt is visiting for the first few days, and B) I have to reread House of Leaves and write an 8-12 page research paper on its use of postmodernism over break for my Honors class.) So it looks like writing a scene a night is how it's going to go, which means the fic is going to take forever to finish.

Bah, I got myself into this mess. No use whining about it.

Also next week is the beginning of the sign up for the [livejournal.com profile] mccoy_and_kirk fic/art exchange. I hope people participate; we purposefully timed it to not be around other exchanges like [livejournal.com profile] space_wrapped and [livejournal.com profile] km_anthology. So I hope some of you guys participate! I'll be making a reminder post tomorrow. Along with a meta discussion post because I suck and just realized in my illness I totally didn't do that.

I am currently surrounded by cats. This is a good thing.

Anyways, back to work I go. Just wanted to post something so people weren't thinking I was dead or something. :D

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

Google: End Piracy, Not Liberty

Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.

Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late.

Tell Congress: Don't censor the Web

Fighting online piracy is important. The most effective way to shut down pirate websites is through targeted legislation that cuts off their funding. There's no need to make American social networks, blogs and search engines censor the Internet or undermine the existing laws that have enabled the Web to thrive, creating millions of U.S. jobs.

Too much is at stake — please vote NO on PIPA and SOPA.

Anyway, community importing is now live.

But like...practically no one's commented on my post on [community profile] mccoy_and_kirk. However...the way the community importing is set up, it gives people an openid automatically, so the content is still their property.

So now I don't know what to do. Because it really would make my life, and the life of my volunteers a lot easier to just do an import. But I really don't want to upset anyone but importing stuff if they don't want it to be imported.

I don't know...I can't import the comments unless I do an actual import, and I would kind of really like to import the comments. Especially because of the meta discussions we have every week.

I have a week or two to decide this; I haven't paid for time for mc_and_k over here, and it's currently only available to paid accounts.
ken_ichijouji: (Default)
Just testing to make sure my cross-posting is set up properly. I'll be buying a Paid DW account this week most likely. Then I can import my icons, yessssssssssss.

I hope you guys had fantabulous Christmases if you celebrate. If not, I hope your Sunday was good. :D
ken_ichijouji: (sniper action // bones)
Because the owner/moderator of a community owns the community itself, but doesn't (usually) own the community's content (which is created by others and so is owned by the people who post it), Dreamwidth won't allow the import of communities from other services at this time.

We aren't against community importing "forever and ever", but it's not going to happen soon, and there's no timetable for when it will happen. There are a lot of copyright and ownership issues to be resolved in a non-evil way before community importing can happen.

SHIT.

So I guess what I need to do now is poll every single member of Mc and K, allow them to decide to opt into cross-posting, and me then manually reposting every entry that's been made to my community that has permission to be mirrored on DW.

Okay.

ETA: And you also can't crosspost from a community on DW to a community here. So I literally have to ask my entire community if they want to post the same content to two different places. Man, I really don't want to ask this of people. That's making things so much more frustrating for my comm members.

Anyone familiar with academic writing want to beta read a paper I wrote about Patti Smith for my Humanities class? I can just add you to the google doc so you can just make corrections in red on it.

I'm sick of staring at it, it needs to be handed in tomorrow at 12:30, and did I mention I'm sick of looking at it? Because God I am.

Anyways, let me know, and we'll work out the details.
ken_ichijouji: (say cheese // jim)
I'm reading old fanfic of mine on AdultFanfiction.Net and, Jesus, I was a pretentious piece of shit in 2003. Second person POV, for God's sake. I just...wow.

I kind of think I could do better by the story now, the one I'm specifically talking about. It's Real Ghostbusters from Ray's POV and full of angst, but I bet I could do better. The Wolverine/Psylocke fic I could handle better too, I didn't really get subtlety when I was 23.

Here. Read the RGB fic and have a good laugh at how I was once the Ben Gibbard of fanfiction. It's actually really hilarious. Seriously, my feelings won't be hurt if you find it funny or terrible. I find it funny and terrible.

At least I picked a really fitting song for it...

Do you guys do this? Go back and read your old stuff and go "Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ what was a I thinking?" And/or "how positively unintentionally hilarious I am. Capital humor old bean!"

Star Trek is the first fandom for me where I reread my fic and...there's not much I would change. I still kinda want to rewrite the very first Waterpark fic, "Variations on a Theme," but other than that there's very little I would do again.

In other news, I just spent five days editing the Dark Phoenix half of Phoenix Invictus. I'm waiting on feedback, and as soon as finals and my move are over, I can focus on writing again. I can't finish anything right now because of how much real life is interfering. Real life has been awful this semester, and I just am not in the right frame of mind to write. Maybe I'll post my Humanities journals where Jim and Bones road trip across America, but I dunno. They're not my strongest fiction.

I am taking Creative Writing next semester though, so we'll see how that pans out. I'm looking forward to being ripped to shreds and struggling for my A. And workshopping. I'm excited for my class to complain about how homoerotic my writing is. ^_~

I was accepted into the Honors program at my school, and I'm possibly doing my Honors project on post-modernism and nihilism in House of Leaves. Maybe just post-modernism, as it's quite a long book. My professor isn't crazy about Hemingway, so my other thought of examining Garden of Eden as a piece of Queer literature didn't go over as well. I had to lend her Leaves, though. We'll see. I'd rather start on it sooner instead of later since it's extra work I have to do on top of my schoolwork. I may have to present it to the Honors committee, which I guess is good practice for my Master's thesis and Doctorate dissertation.

My pets are still the fucking cutest things ever.

Anyways, that's what's up with me right now. Finals are in like...twelve days. I am so relieved this semester is almost over. I'm ready for a fresh start.

PROTECT IP Act Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

BoingBoing.Net -- The MPAA, RIAA, Hollywood knows that they have been flying in CEOs of as many companies as possible, recruiting people to get petition signups at malls in California, and here's the big point-- they know they have gotten their message through to Congress -- the worst bill in Internet history, the one where government and their corporations get unbelievable power to take down sites, threaten payment processors into stopping payment to sites on a blacklist, and throw people in jail for posting ordinary content is about to pass before the end of this year. The only thing that is going to stop Hollywood from owning the Internet and everything we do, is if there is a big surprise Internet backlash starting right now.

PROTECT IP (S. 968)/SOPA (HR. 3261) creates the first system for Internet censorship - this bill has sweeping provisions that give the government and corporations leeway and legal cover for taking down sites "by accident," mistakenly, or for NOT doing "enough" to protect the interests of Hollywood. These bills that are moving very quickly through Congress and can pass before Christmas aim to give the US government and corporations the ability to block sites over infringing links posted by their users and give ISPs the release to take any means to block peoples' sites, including slowing down your connection. That's right, some say this bill is a workaround to net neutrality and is bigger than net neutrality.

This is the worst piece of Internet legislation in history - the lawmakers who have been sponsoring (Leahy, Lamar Smith, Conyers) this bill need to be shamed by the Internet community for wasting taxpayer dollars on a bill that would break the very fabric of the Internet, create an Internet blacklist, kill jobs and great startup companies, huge blogs, and social networks.

How this affects you, personally:

EFF.org -- Let’s make one thing clear from the get-go: despite all the talk about this bill being directed only toward “rogue” foreign sites, there is no question that it targets US companies as well. The bill sets up a system to punish sites allegedly “dedicated to the theft of US property.” How do you get that label? Doesn’t take much: Some portion of your site (even a single page) must
  1. be directed toward the US, and either
  2. allegedly “engage in, enable or facilitate” infringement or
  3. allegedly be taking or have taken steps to “avoid confirming a high probability” of infringement.

If an IP rightsholder (vaguely defined – could be Justin Bieber worried about his publicity rights) thinks you meet the criteria and that it is in some way harmed, it can send a notice claiming as much to the payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, Paypal etc.) and ad services you rely on.

Once they get it, they have 5 days to choke off your financial support. Of course, the payment processors and ad networks won’t be able to fine-tune their response so that only the allegedly infringing portion of your site is affected, which means your whole site will be under assault. And, it makes no difference that no judge has found you guilty of anything or that the DMCA safe harbors would shelter your conduct if the matter ever went to court. Indeed, services that have been specifically found legal, like Rapidshare, could be economically strangled via SOPA. You can file a counter-notice, but you’ve only got 5 days to do it (good luck getting solid legal advice in time) and the payment processors and ad networks have no obligation to respect it in any event. That’s because there are vigilante provisions that grant them immunity for choking off a site if they have a “reasonable belief” that some portion of the site enables infringement.

At a minimum, this means that any service that hosts user generated content is going to be under enormous pressure to actively monitor and filter that content. That’s a huge burden, and worse for services that are just getting started – the YouTubes of tomorrow that are generating jobs today. And no matter what they do, we’re going to see a flurry of notices anyway – as we’ve learned from the DMCA takedown process, content owners are more than happy to send bogus complaints. What happened to Wikileaks via voluntary censorshipStop the Internet Blacklist Legislation will now be systematized and streamlined – as long as someone, somewhere, thinks they’ve got an IP right that’s being harmed.

Stop the Internet Blacklist Legislation

I bought something today.

What, you may be asking?

Nothing major. Just THIS.

We made an offer last night; they countered. We countered their counter. They countered again and offered some help with the closing costs. We accepted!

Now I just have to cull everything I own and pack forever. I'm thinking about donating my washer and dryer to Habitat for Humanity and keeping the ones left in the house. We're replacing the appliances in the kitchen because the oven's not self cleaning (you'd think that isn't a big deal but my God you would be SO wrong), the refrigerator is old, and we're getting an over the range microwave. We found a set of all four major appliances at Lowe's for $2500 including installation, so we're going to order them when it gets closer to move-in day.

We close December 15th. I have a Spanish final but lol forever I'll work something out. I think I want to move in on the 16th and 17th. Dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnn.

Also I'm totally keeping the red. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I love it. It's so bold, and I always said I wanted a lot of color in my house. It's perfect.
ken_ichijouji: (say cheese // jim)
Man, buying a house is eating me alive. When I'm online, I'm browsing real estate listings. When I'm not online or in class, I'm out looking at homes. I've already ruled some out, and put some still in the running. I eat, sleep, and breath the real estate listings.

This is the house that I'm keeping in mind while searching: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/103-Bogue-Ct-Cary-NC-27511/6466171_zpid/. That gives a basic idea of what I'm looking at. If it had a garage it'd be perfect, but the location is excellent and look at all of those features. The water heater is solar powered. The only thing is the windows need to be replaced, but that's something we can use to negotiate with.

I'm not getting into any bidding wars. I actually flat out refuse to get into a bidding war. I'm not doing that; I don't have time for it, and I don't have the stomach for it either. My parents will be up on Tuesday, and we have appointments as early as Wednesday. We are getting shit done.

Other than that, school has eaten me alive. This semester is really taking a toll on me; I think the online class was a bad idea. I barely have time to breathe, let alone write or clean my apartment or anything. Pretty much I go to school, I come home, I study, I take the dog out a few times, I possibly eat something, and I go to bed. I have like...no free time. I'll try to be better about posting and talking more, because I feel really bad that I'm all in the corner and silent.

On the fic front, I need to put Phoenix on hold because every time I work on it, I end up hating it. I think I need to skip around it, or something, because what I'm currently doing isn't working. I started on a Ghostbusters AU just for fun and something light, and I'm about a third of the way through that. (I should clarify that my Ghostbusters AU is a bit more of a Real Ghostbusters AU than a Ghostbusters the movie AU. I like the Real Ghostbusters better because it developed all of the guys, not just Peter and kinda-sorta Ray. Plus the villains were cooler in RGB; you had Samhain, the Boogeyman (which is what I'm using for the AU), they fought Chthulu in one episode for crying out loud! (Granted they were only able to banish him, Egon said nothing they had would do any good against him. Which is hilarious in how true it is.) My using the RGB template is also why Bones is Egon; aside from the "fascinating" running gag, RGB Egon has surprisingly little in common with Spock. He's a brilliant scientist who believes in a lot of very unscientific things (like werechickens...yes this was an actual episode. Egon became a werechicken. Actually, most of the ridiculous shit happened to Egon. He became a ghost, he got a dragon, he went on a purple Hulked out rampage, he got turned into a werechicken, he got possessed by a witch, he was turned into a baby, and this is just off the top of my head. Once a season they did ridiculous things to Egon. I guess I'm not the only one who likes robbing fictional characters of their hard fought-for dignity), which is why it makes more sense to me for Bones to be him than Spock. Plus Egon is hot, and Bones is hot, and to me personally Spock is not hot. Spock will show up later on in a pretty important role, but he's not one of the main four Ghostbusters. You can probably guess who the other three Ghostbusters are if you know anything about how I write the Trek characters.

And hey, at least Spock's not Chekov who ended up as Slimer.

You're welcome for that, by the way.

Anyway, on another note. I feel like showing off how cute my pets are. I did a presentation on them for my Spanish class, so I will share them with you all as well. So anyway, here we go! )

Okay, I've goofed off enough. I need to write for boring humanities now. Jim and Bones on the road, Savannah to Berkeley, woo Spring break.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me while I did this. Hopefully I'll be around more now that midterms are over!

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood Amendment
Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

I got screamed at today because I almost (almost, not did) dropped a woman's dozen eggs. Literally screamed at in the middle of my store.

I think I need a new job, or at least I need to not work at the store I do. People in Cary are entitled assholes. On what planet is it okay to scream at someone because you throw something at them and they almost don't catch it? I was even immediately apologetic about it! I was like "Oh my god, I'm sorry, but I managed to..." and she just started unloading on me. To his credit, Trampas, the MOD came to my rescue to diffuse the situation, but I shouldn't be put in that situation in the first place.

In other news, I'm enjoying Occupy Wall Street, although the fact that no one (even the protestors) seems to grasp that they're not protesting capitalism so much as corporatism is kind of beyond my comprehension. Also I have Bank of America, and I would so be switching to my credit union fulltime if not for the fact that my parents have BoA and if I get in a financial jam (like say, Tuesday) it's easier for them to just electronically transfer the funds to me instead of having to wire it or send a check. And no, BoA, you're not actually entitled to turn a profit. You're entitled to the chance to turn a profit, not actually doing so. There's a big difference, assholes.

Oh yes, aforementioned financial jam. I got a flat tire on Tuesday, which snowballed into me needing both front tires replaced, which then snowballed into me also needing new front brake pads and rotors. (You see, on a BMW, you can't just replace pads or rotors. You have to do them at the same time.) The total cost of these things was $917. Do you know what else I could do with $917 dollars? Pay my rent for a month, pay for a semester of school plus books, buy a bottle of 1966 Dom Perignon, buy a pair of Louboutins, buy three Coach Purses or one Balenciaga purse, buy two Marc by Marc Jacobs dresses, buy a Macbook Air, pay for my upcoming house to be painted, buy three Kitchenaid Stand Mixers, or buy a round trip ticket to Paris. But no, I had to spend it on my car, and by I had to I mean I had to call my parents because I don't have $917 just laying around unfortunately.

I did have enough to give them a kickass birthday present: a basket including three bottles of wine, tons of snacks, and a wine stopper. My mom said she didn't know whether to be happy or angry with me. They're in Vegas right now, celebrating their birthdays. (Mom's was yesterday, and Dad's is the 9th), but they assured me they're going to crack it open when they get home.

When they get home, the house buying process begins for real. I may make an appointment to check out a couple of houses next week because I'm on fall break. It can't hurt to rule out some things before my Mom and Dad get up here. Like putrescent neighborhoods or no closet space.

On the fannish front, I've written 1500 words of Good Phoenix and it's all garbage. /o\ I think I'm gonna scrap it and start all over again. I'm also writing Jim and Bones go on a road trip for my Buddhism/Beats class, although I have to rename Bones because my professor is totally a Trekkie. (Anime and comic geek too, which is nice. We had a long talk about cosplay last week when I met her during her office hours. Interesting lady.) The road trip is from Savannah, Georgia, to Berkley, so um if you guys have any ideas for things for them to see that related to Jim being a practicing Zen Buddhist and Bones being generally cynical and curmudgeonly, that's be awesome. They're just meeting, Jim picks Bones up who's hitchhiking to get away from Savannah and Jocelyn if that helps. Joanna doesn't exist for the purposes of this story. I'm thinking the World's Largest Ball of Twine will be involved somehow. I really need to sit down with Google Maps and plot their route this weekend.

Oh, and I started watching Mad Men! It is insanely good television. I'm not in any way, shape or form fannish about it, but it's incredible. I only watch one episode a night so I can soak it all in. I also will take one of everything Joan Holloway wears. Everything I say!

For now, I have homework plus riesling to drink.

OH RIGHT. Kirk/McCoy Ghostbusters AU? Great idea or greatest idea? It was merely a matter of time, considering one of my all time OTPs is Peter/Egon.
